Combining the art of photography with the art of writing

Country of birds, certainly! And in view of the actual winters, it is becoming more and more birds friendly. In 2002, the cranes, until then only passing through, started to nest here…

Today, among the Mallards, we find more and more hybrids… some females with totally unexpected plumage colours.

It is also rather common to see a Great Crested Grebe here but it is very difficult to approach it, except when it is nesting. It rarely, if ever, leaves its nest which its partner regularly strengthen.

We see the cormorant more and more today deep inside land, near lakes and canals... so long as there is some water somewhere!

Majestic, the swan is everywhere at home here.

The Common Coot is the most common water bird in The Netherlands, even more than the Mallard. But the Moorhen is making an appreciated come back...

More or less 1.500 000 geese, all species mingled, migrate every year to The Netherlands. We can some times see colonies of 10 000 birds at once, mostly in Friesland...

The Grey Heron belongs also to our landscapes.  Rather solitary in normal time, it nests in noisy and well noticed colonies...

Since a while already Seagulls are not only sea birds any longer. Great time-servers, and so long as there is water, we can see them, in The Netherlands, nearly everywhere deep inside land...

The stork, in process of disappearing during the years 1990, was saved because of associations of birds and Nature protection such as VogelbeschermingandNatuurmonumenten”...
